1990

Fourteen year old Ng Xuan Hui created history by becoming the first sailor to clinch the prestigious Sportsgirl award since its inception in 1977.

The St Nicholas Girl's School student represented the Republic in the 11th Asian Games and emerged a creditable fifth in the Optimist event.

In the 1st Asian Optimist Championship held in Singapore last year, the teenager bagged gold in the girl's individual and team categories. She also maintained her consistency and excellent form by winning the event in the 4th Asean Optimist Championship and helped her team secure second spot.

For her excellent performances, Xuan Hui received other accolades including the National Schools Colors Award.


1991

Fourteen year old Ng Xuan Hui created history by becoming the first sailor to clinch the prestigious Sportsgirl award not once, but twice consecutively.

The St Nicholas Girl's School student was the only Singapore teenager to clinch a gold medal at the XVIth SEA Games in Manila and has distinguished herself as the foremost sailor in the Optimist class of yachts.

At the IODA Optimist World Championship in Greece , she was placed 7th amidst a very large and competitive international field. She continued her winning form by taking the spot in the 2nd Asian Optimist Championship for the second year running.

For her outstanding performances, Xuan Hui also received the North Zone Schools Colors Award and the SNOC Merit Award 1991.


1992

Soft-spoken Ng Xuan Hui ended her glorious optimist years in style by capturing the top spot in the Asian and Asean Optimist Championships in the girls' category for the third consecutive year.

The three-time Sportgirl of the Year was impressive with her consistent performances, securing fifth and third placings in the overall individual and team events in the Asian Championship. In the Asean meet, she emerged champion and first runner-up in all overall individual and team events respectively.

For her outstanding performances, Xuan Hui received other accolades including the SNOC Merit Award, National and Zone Colors and the SSSC Outstanding Award.

This precocious head perfect from St Nicholas Girls' School is now training diligently to compete in the 420 Class for the SEA Games.
