Daughter of Coach of the Year 1993 Tony Tan, Tracey started her sailing career when she was only six. In 1991 Tracey competed in the 420 class in Japan and brought Singapore glory when she beat most of her male counterparts. She was then chosen for the 1991 SEA Games in Manila. She continued her performance at the 1994 World Laser Championships in Japan where she took 3rd place.
