Only 14 and already broken 42 records, May Ooi, the youngest in the national swimming squad, clinched two bronzes at the 15 th SEA Games. Hers was the first medal to be won by a Singapore female swimmer in the SEA Games since Junie Sng in 1983.
The young, talented swimmer was at her best in the Asean Age Group Swimming Championship last year where she rewrote three Championships, two national and seven age-group records. She came away with seven golds and one silver.
The Katong Convent student's performance at the SEA Age Group Inter-Club Swimming Championship was no less dazzling. She finished the meet with three golds, one silver and two bronzes. May was also awarded the “Best Performer” title in the Girl's Group 3 Category.
May is currently holding the national record for the 200m breast stroke with a timing of 2:44.72s and the 100m breast stroke at 1:18.52s.
