Eighteen years old Li Lian is an up and coming squash star in the republic. She has to her credit a string of titles when she won the Pepsi Youth, Ascot Closed and Milo National Under-19 Championships in 1986.

Her outstanding performance in the international scene has also brought glory to Singapore ; the former student of Victoria Junior College was the champion of the Malaysian Junior Squash Open. Together with her teammates, Li Lian won gold medals for Singapore in the 11th East Asia Squash Championships and the Ovaltine Squash International against Malaysia held early last year. She was also a member of the Singapore team, which finished second, in the 3rd Asian Squash championships.
