Adelene Wee, born 1965, became Singapore's first World Bowling Champion when she won the Ladies' Masters title in the 1985 World Games in London at age 20.
She first shot into the limelight at 17 when she won the 1982 Singapore International Bowling Championships. Subsequently, she captured the Sukhumvit Open title in Thailand, breaking the world record for the 6-game series with a total of 1,280 pinfalls, the same year. For her outstanding achievements, she was awarded both best “Sportsgirl” and “Sportswoman of the Year” in 1982.
Adelene continued her winning streak winning gold in the doubles, all-events and masters at the 1983 Asian FIQ Youth Championships and in 1985, returned home with three gold medals in the singles, masters and team events.
She reached her zenith by winning the gold medal at the World Games in 1985. This victory helped her win the “Sportswoman of the Year” title, a second time.
Over the next 10 years, Adelene continued to represent Singapore in various international events until her retirement from competition in 1995.
