At the 1986 Sports Award Ceremony, Tan Hwee Hock, Singapore's national water polo coach, earned for himself the Coach of the Year award for the success of the national water polo team in '86.
That year the team won a bronze medal at the 10th Asian Games in Seoul, South Korea - an incredible feat for a team up against the traditional giants of the game such as China, Korea and Japan - at the 10th version of the games held once every four years.
The dedication with which Tan carries out his coaching duties not only sees him overseeing the training regimen of the national team - Tan also contributes much toward the Youth development of the sport by committing his time in coaching up-and-coming youth in the sport of water polo.
Tan Hwee Hock was a member of the 1954 Asian Games Gold Medal winning water polo team which led to his induction into the Hall of Fame since 1987.
