A player turned coach Sheik Alau'ddin has contributed immensely to the development of silat and nurturing young budding athletes to achieve sporting glory for Singapore.
In 1998, he led and guided a commanding team of silat exponents to win three golds, two silvers and eight bronze medals at the Brunei SEA Games and earned himself the coveted Coach of the Year 1999 award.
Sheik Alau'ddin has since continued to groom and develop outstanding talents in Silat. In 2001, at the Belgium Open Silat Championhips, his charges, Mohd Zulfakar, Mohd Noor Rafili and Mohd Ridhwan returned with gold medals. At the European Championships in Holland , veteran fighter, Abdul Kadir won a gold medal whilst his team-mates added another silver and three bronze medals. From the world stage to the hotly-contested bienniel SEA Games, his charges again kept the Singapore flag flying, returning with four medals (one gold, two silvers and one bronze).
At the Belgium Open 2002 where thirteen countries has taken part, his charges, Abdul Kadir ,Mohd Zulfakar, Mohd Noor Rafili and Yazed Bin Mohd Yadi returned with four gold medals. The winning streak continued with Muhd Imran, Mohd Rashid, Abdul Rahim Anwar, Mohd Hafizul and Alya Osman bagging five gold medals at the 1st Asia Pacific Championship. Such outstanding achievements by the silat athletes have always been the pride of Sheik's coaching career.
Experienced and an inspiration to his Silat players, Sheik is certainly an outstanding role model in his sport. He has certainly helped raised the profile and standard of Silat in Singapore.
In the eyes of the silat boys, Sheik is both a mentor and a great role model. His devotion to the sport has been a major influence on the national team. He constantly inspires and spurs them to soar to higher grounds.
For his selfless dedication and contribution and contribution in raising the standard of silat in Singapore, Sheik is awarded the Coach of the Year, a third time in 2002.
