Physical Education teacher Michael Tan receives the Coach of the Year award for his tremendous contribution to the development and training of the Republic's Optimist class of sailors.

A national sailor from 1975 to 1987, he represented Singapore in various SEA and Asian Games before turning to coaching. A 1990 nominee for the Coach of the year Award, Michael Tan has undertaken the responsibility of the Republic's best young sailors in the Optimist class including Ng Xuan Hui & Tan Wearn Haw.
