The champion water polo team, comprising Kee Soon Bee (Captain), Tan Hwee Hock, Gan Eng Teck, Tan Eng Bock, Keith Mitchell, Oh Chwee Hock, Wiebe Wolters and Oh Kian Bin, won a gold medal at the 2 nd Asian Games in Manila, 1954.

The water polo team had earlier won a silver medal at the inaugural Games. The team continued to do well at the Asian Games, winning medals at five more outings over the years.

The water polo team's gold medal is to date, Singapore 's only gold ever to be won for a team sport at the Asian Games.
